A CONFIRMED estuarine (saltwater) crocodile has been reported in the Lake Kununurra crocodile control zone which extends along the Ord River from the Lake Argyle dam wall to the diversion dam at Lake Kununurra. A crocodile 1.5m - 2m was sighted approximately 600m upstream of the entrance to Lilly Creek lagoon on Saturday 23 March 2024.

Posted 06 March 2024 Main Roads Western Australia is set to resume progress on the Halls Creek to Kununurra Bridges Project starting mid-March 2024.

The next phase of construction will focus on completing the Tickalara Creek and Frog Hollow Creek replacement bridges, with work scheduled to recommence on 18th March 2024. These final stages will involve the construction of approach slabs, embankment earthworks, and the installation of road safety barriers. Anticipated completion for both bridges is set for mid-June 2024.

Wet Season heavy rains has contributed to the increases in mosquitoes throughout the Shire. In Western Australia, mosquitoes can transmit Ross River virus, Barmah Forest virus and Kunjin virus, as well as the potentially fatal Murray Valley encephalitis and Japanese encephalitis viruses (JEV).
