The Corporate Business Plan is a key component of the Shires Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework and is the organisation’s commitment to activating the Shire’s Strategic Community Plan. The corporate Business Plan outlines the actions or 'doing' aspects that the Shire will undertake over the next four years, to achieve the goals of the overarching Strategic Community Plan. 

The 2018/19 Municipal Fund Budget is in the process of being finalised. The Budget is one of the most important documents the Shire produces on an annual basis because of the impact it has on the Community.

Waringarri Media have approached the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley regarding a proposed project to install solar powered sound (radio) poles at Celebrity Tree Park and Swim Beach, Kununurra.

The proposal involves the installation of two sound poles at each location with a view to broadcast Waringarri Radio through the speakers from 9am to 5pm, 7 days a week.

The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley is pleased to announce the successful funding application to the Commonwealth Government’s Safer Communities Fund, for the provision and installation of CCTV and additional lighting in both Kununurra and Wyndham town centres. The amount awarded for the Safer Communities Project is $800,000. Completion and commissioning of the project is expected in June 2019.

The Safer Communities Project is more than just the delivery of infrastructure, with the primary focus being to improve community safety and confidence in public places.

The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley is undertaking a review of a range of local laws. This Consultation page will include include amendment proposals, information about the progress of the Shires changing local laws and the opportunity to provide feedback, by making a submission or asking a question relating to all local laws being reviewed and then again as each law is completed to draft stage. 

Draft Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan

The Shire is working with other agencies to update the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan for Kununurra and Wyndham and want to hear from the community on ideas that should be included in the Plan.

The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley have contracted Donovan Payne Architects to produce a draft Master Plan study of the existing Kununurra Leisure Centre and site. The consultants were engaged to produce a concept plan for a new aquatic facility to replace existing pools and to reconfigure, update and modify the existing Leisure Centre to achieve more program areas with improved disability access on the current site.

We invite you to review the plan and provide your feedback and comments on the design and location for the proposed redevelopment.

The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley proposes to lease the above property, being part Reserve 27603, Lot 500 on Deposited Plan 66554, to Ting Huang (Kimberley Asian Cuisine) for a period of 5 years with a further option of 5 years and the permitted use of restaurant.
 
The premises has an area of 128 m² and Market Net Rental Value of $36,480 (exclusive of GST) per annum, which equates to $285 per square metre exclusive of GST for the proposed lease. Accordingly the proposed lease will be subject to an annual lease fee of $36,480 plus GST and variable outgoings.

Notice is hereby given in accordance with section 58(3) of the Land Administration Act 1997 that the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley is giving consideration to the permanent partial closure of a portion of Carlton Hill Road, Kununurra.
 
Plans showing the location of Carlton Hill Road, and the partial closure area, are available for inspection at the Shire Offices at 20 Coolibah Drive Kununurra, and Koolama Street Wyndham, Kununurra School and Community Library, and on the Shire’s website www.swek.wa.gov.au.

In 2018 the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley engaged a Senior Economic Development Officer (SEDO) to coordinate and facilitate economic development activities in our Shire. One of the tasks of the SEDO is to prepare an Economic Development Plan (the Plan). After consultations with our business community, a Discussion Paper has been prepared for wider community input to further inform the preparation of the Plan.

We invite you to provide your feedback and comments/suggestions on the Discussion Paper.

The Shire aims to undertake a community perceptions survey every two years in the form of a community scorecard to check perceived satisfaction with the Shire, Shire's performance and services.

A regular community survey is an opportunity for the organisation to understand the opinions and views of the community, identify issues and areas for focus, benchmark performance, track improvements over time and inform the reviews of the Strategic Community Plan.  Importantly, the survey is a fundamental part of a healthy democracy and well-functioning local government.

The 2019 survey is being conducted on the Shire’s behalf by Catalyse an independent company.  Responses will remain confidential in accordance with the Privacy Act and Australian Privacy Principles.

The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley held two Community Consultation sessions last week in regards to Wyndham’s Boat Ramp and Town Revitalisation.

Following the State Government’s announcement that funding will be provided to build a Water Playground in Kununurra, the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley have explored possible locations and is intending to construct the Water Playground where the old Shire Administration Building is located.

Notice is hereby given that the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley has commenced a review of its Local Planning Policies and the following actions are proposed:\

• Revocation of Local Planning Policy 1 (LPP 1) – Lakeside Residential Development Guidelines Policy. It is proposed to replace LPP 1 with an information sheet for residential development within the Shire.
• Revocation of Local Planning Policy 3 (LPP 3) – Weaber Plain LIA Design Guidelines. It is proposed to replace LPP 3 with an information sheet for industrial development within the Shire.
• Proposed amendment to Local Planning Policy 5 (LPP 5) – Sea Containers. The Policy provides information and requirements in relation to the positioning and location of sea containers within the Shire.

The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley would like to invite community members to comment on the preliminary plan for tree planting in Wyndham. The preliminary plan for tree planting is part of the Shire’s program to revitalise Wyndham’s town centre. 

The Shire has finalised its draft Corporate Plan and now Council wants you to have a say! The Shire is committed to providing opportunities for our community and stakeholders to be involved in the decisions that affect them. The Corporate Plan maps out the work the Shire will strive to achieve over the next five years to respond to the aspirations and achieve the goals developed by the community in the Strategic Community Plan. The Plan is now available on Shire’s website. A copy of the draft document can also be found in Shire’s offices and libraries in Wyndham and Kununurra.

The Shire has undertaken a review of Local Planning Scheme No. 9 (LPS 9) and prepared an Amendment (Amendment 1) in accordance with the Planning and Development Act 2005 to the following

The Shire is currently reviewing its Alcohol Management Policy. The policy covers the consumption and availability of alcohol on Shire property, in association with planning approvals, including BYO applications and public events.

The Shire and the Disability Access and Inclusion Committee have finalised a draft update of the Disability Access and Inclusion Plan. 

The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley would like to encourage residents who are living, working, studying or visiting our Shire to provide their feedback on our new ‘Community Engagement Policy’.

This policy outlines the Shire’s commitment and approaches to community engagement and will assist Council and Shire Officers in decision making. Policies are regularly reviewed to keep them current and ensure it supports the delivery of the Strategic Community Plan.
